Anyone using the mini access by Merit called "Mak"? Is it indicated for peripheral IV access? Dwell time? Special orders to insert? Since cath is 4" (10cm), is it considered midline vs peripheral cath? Charged as midline vs peripheral iv start? Looking forward to hearing information.
Are you talking about the introducer device I found at
www.merit.com/products
If so, this catheter does not have an indication to leave it to dwell inside the vein. The labeled indication is for introducer purposes only. Read their IFU which can be downloaded.
So this introducer would not be a midline catheter. It is only indicated for introduction of other large guidewires. The length of a catheter is not what makes it a midline. It is the final tip location that makes a catheter a midline. But you must go by the instructions and indications for use provided by the manufacturer and infusion through any specific tip location is not included in their product information.

You are very correct. I read the indication for use. Just needed confirmation that I was reading it correctly. Thanks!! Some institutions are using it as IV access with placement in upperarm sites which is off label use.
