double lumen port

Are all double lumen implanted venous ports two distinct lumens/catheters?  Or are any two lumen that join as in a Y site?

 All multiple lumen caths

All multiple lumen caths have a separate lumen from external hub to internal tip. Adding a multiple lumen extension set does not create a multilumen catheter.

DL implanted port

Peggy,

All dual lumen implanted ports have separate fluid pathways.  A non-coring needle is inserted into each port septum.  The two reservoirs, although incorporated into one port body, are separate.  The port body connects to the catheter which has two totally separate lumens.
