Dialysis fistulas and use of ultrasound

Is anyone accessing fistulas with the use of ultrasound? Our dialysis unit is wanting our IV team to educate them on how to do this. I am very confidant in using the ultrasound but not in accessing fistulas. I would appreciate any help from anyone who performs this skill.

WHY

Have you asked them why they feel they need to use US to access a fistula?   It seems to me that they would be able to see and feel the fistula easily if it is working properly.   If it is not, then the patient needs to go to radiology for a study to assess it.   Accessing a fistula is much easier than inserting a PIV.  I would investigate the problems they are having further before training them on US use.
