As you maybe aware many home health agencies and home infusion pharmacies require a first dose done in a controled setting.
We have been asked to consider doing first doses of a variety of IV
meds in the home due to the difficulty getting home patients to a place (clinic, AIC, er) where they can get a first dose. I am aware that a reaction can occur after the nurse leaves as well as with any subsequent dose of medication and is not limited to only the first dose.
Are you doing it?
If so how does your policy read? How long do your nurses stay in the home after the infusion is completed? would you be willing to share your policy? What provisions do you have in place for an adverse event, etc...?
If not - why not
Thank you
