This can be an ongoing issue with certain patients and would like to have input on what other facilities are using to assist in the control lines that continue to bleed at the insertion site. There have been several ideas used in trying to control the bleeding, one of which is applying direct pressure with betadine swabs for at least 10 minutes or until the bleeding is controlled. This does not control the bleeding on most occasions. Another one is to apply pressure dressing to the picc line insertion site and reinforce, if needed, after direct pressure has been applied for 10-20 minutes. This allows for clot formation by not removing the dressing several times throughout the day after insertion. What products or thoughts does everyone have?
