Adding on to my above post....IR says it is ok to use, although it is looped, the tip is in the lower SVC. Pt. will be getting 2 more weeks of ABX. Any thoughts on this please.....
Do you mean that the actual catheter is looped or coiled in some manner? Was this done purposefully by the inserter or has it occured over time? There is no way to manipulate the port body to change this and doing this could cause worse problems. If there is no resistance or occlusion and the tip is in the lower third of the SVC and there is only 2 weeks of therapy remaining and it will be taken out, I would leave it alone. If it poses a problem with infusion, that is a different story but it would have to be done in IR or require surgical manipulation. Lynn
