I am just curious if many facilities allow Phlebotomists to draw off of PICCs/ports? Our current hospital policy states only RN's can do the draw but this is being looked at to help decrease the RN's work load.

Definitely not. I have watched their technique with just drawing blood cultures and they do not have the knowledge base to draw labs from any line. With all the collaboratives , checklists, initiatives, etc. in place for reduction of CRBSI my thinking is this is one unneccessary varible to throw in. Compliance would be difficult to monitor.
