HI, I AM INVOLVED IN A NURSING RESEARCH COUNCIL PROJECT AND AM IN NEED OF ARTICLES. THE QUESTION IS: IS IT NECESSARY TO MAINTAIN TPN LINE EXCLUSIVNESS, CAN THE LINE BE USED FOR ANYTHING OTHER THAN TPN?
Yes to the TPN line dedicated to nothing but TPN and NO! to using it for anything else. The reasons are infection prevention and compatibility and stability of both solutions. This is coming from the American Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition and Infusion Nurses Society.
